Biography

Mark E. Recktenwald served as Chief Justice of the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court from September 14, 2010 until his retirement on October 1, 2025. He joined the court as an Associate Justice in May, 2009, and previously served as Chief Judge of the Hawaiʻi  Intermediate Court of Appeals beginning in April, 2007. Prior to becoming a judge, he served as the director of the Hawaiʻi Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Hawaiʻi, and as an attorney in private practice. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his law degree from the University of Chicago.
