International Visiting Students
Richardson welcomes law students from around the world to study with us for a Fall semester, Spring semester, a full academic year, or during Summer Session.
Fall and/or Spring visitors
- Hoakipa Visiting Student Program: The University of Hawaiʻi has agreements with more than 90 international schools to welcome a limited number of international visiting students each semester. See the Mānoa International Exchange (MIX) website for information, deadlines, and application.
- Independent Visiting Students (‘free movers’): Students from universities that don’t have a formal Hoakipa agreement with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa may apply as an Independent Visiting Student. Applicants can apply directly through the Law School or through the Mānoa International Exchange (MIX) with the assistance of their home university.
Summer visitors
- Summer Session for International Students: We offer an in-person Introduction to U.S. Law course during Summer session along with additional optional online courses. All students attending UHM Summer courses pay resident tuition. Summer applicants will apply directly through the Law School.
Eligibility
Students who have completed at least one year at a recognized law school outside of the U.S. are eligible to apply to attend Richardson as an International Visiting Student. The exact classes available will depend on the semester and each applicant’s previous legal studies.
Housing for International Visiting Students
Each student is responsible for arranging their accommodations in Hawai‘i. Many of our graduate and international students apply for student housing through the East-West Center (EWC). EWC is a 5-minute walk from the Law School and offers affordable, dormitory-style housing for UHM students. Rates are set by EWC and EWC housing applications go directly through EWC.
