F-1 PAPERWORK FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
- Incoming students who need an I-20/student visa should coordinate with the Law School Graduate & International Programs as soon as possible.
UH USERNAME AND EMAIL
- New students will choose a UH Username and set up a UH email. Their UH email will serve as an official channel of communication by the University and the Law School and should be checked regularly. It is also needed for registration and to access many University services.
PRE-REGISTRATION CHECK LIST
- Login to STAR
- At the top, click on GPS Registration
- Find the box for the semester you will be starting and click ‘Add/Drop classes’
- Complete any pending tasks in the Pre-Registration Checklist
HEALTH CLEARANCE FOR IN-PERSON AND HYBRID CLASSES
- Health holds are automatically placed on new student accounts and must be cleared before students can register for in-person or hybrid classes.
- Students will upload medical documents through Med+Proctor, a free service that handles all of the Immunization Verification processes for the University. Med+Proctor is able to accept various types of medical documents, including international documents.

HEALTH INSURANCE
- International Student Insurance – UH requires all International Students taking in-person or hybrid classes maintain adequate medical health insurance and medical evacuation and repatriation coverage while enrolled at UH. Check the University Health Services website for requirements and plan options.
Important note: The University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa requires all students to submit a completed and signed F-1 Student Acknowledgement & Insurance Provider Certification Form. The University does not review insurance plans; the insurance company is required to confirm plans are in compliance with the school’s requirements by initialing each requirement and signing the form. Without the completed provider certification, the University will be unable to accept your current insurance plan.
FAFSA
- Visit our Financial Aid page for information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for qualified applicants.
Important note: Law Financial Aid will not be able to access your FAFSA or process your aid if the name and social security number in your WSRSL application do not match the name and name and social security number on your FAFSA, or if you left the social security number section of your application blank. If you have any questions, please contact intlaw@hawaii.edu.
ADMITTED STUDENT PORTAL (AJD students)
Admitted AJD students will be emailed instructions for accessing the Richardson Admitted Student Portal which includes additional requirements, deadlines, and next steps as well as a Program Checklist, information on Orientation, and both required and optional readings. Students should check the Admitted Student Portal and the Resources for Incoming Graduate & International Students page regularly as these pages will be updated on a regular basis.
PARKING

- Fall 2026 Parking Permit Requests will begin mid-to-late Spring 2026.
The William S. Richardson School of Law Student Handbook contains important University and Law School policies, and strict academic and disciplinary regulations, that apply to all Law School students, including AJD, LLM, and visiting students. All Richardson students are expected to familiarize themselves with its contents and adhere to University and Law School policies and procedures.

East-West Center Housing
Many of our graduate and international students apply for student housing through the East-West Center (EWC). EWC is a 5-minute walk from the Law School and offers affordable, dormitory-style housing for UHM students. Rates are set by EWC and EWC housing applications go directly through EWC. Priority is given to EWC and Fulbright scholars and participants of the EWC Student Affiliate Program.

- To remove these holds, students will submit health clearances through Med+Proctor. Submit your forms as soon as possible to allow time to process your submission before the first day of the semester.

English Language Resources
- Center for Academic Spoken English (CASE): provides free oral communication support for members of the UH Mānoa community who speak English as an additional language.
- The Writing Center at Mānoa: is a collaborative environment which offers writing consultations free of charge to anyone affiliated with UH – undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and visiting scholars.
