Edward Stern

Edward Stern

Class of 2025

During his first summer of law school, Edward participated in the Santa Clara Law Summer Abroad Program in Tokyo, Japan, where he studied international business transactions, Japanese law and society, and Japanese constitutional law. As part of the program, he completed a four-week externship with a Japanese law firm, gaining experience in maritime and criminal law, commercial arbitration, and contract disputes. Highlights of his time in Japan included visiting the Japanese Supreme Court and meeting Supreme Court Justice Katsuya Uga, a distinguished scholar and prominent voice on the court. His Tokyo experience concluded with a gathering of Richardson alumni living and working in Japan. Upon returning, Edward became a board member of the Pacific-Asian Legal Studies Organization, later served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Asian-Pacific Law & Policy Journal, andultimately graduated with certificates in International & Comparative Law and Pacific-Asian Legal Studies.

“Being immersed in a different legal system and working alongside Japanese attorneys gave me a new perspective that is especially relevant in Hawaiʻi, where understanding Japanese culture plays a big role in both business and family law matters.”
