Master of Laws (LLM) Student Resources
F-1 PAPERWORK FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
- International students who need an I-20 from the University should coordinate with the Law School International Programs as soon as possible.
UH USERNAME AND EMAIL
- New students will choose a UH Username and set up a UH email. Their UH email will serve as an official channel of communication by the University and the Law School and should be checked regularly. It is also needed for registration and to access many University services.
VERIFY PERMANENT AND MAILING ADDRESSES
- Go to the MyUH portal
- Search for “Student Services” at the top search bar
- A new window should pop up. Click “Personal Information” on the left side
- Click “View/Update My Address(es) and Phone(s)”
PRE-REGISTRATION CHECK LIST
- Login to STAR
- At the top, click on GPS Registration
- Find the box for the semester you will be starting and click ‘Add/Drop classes’
- Complete any pending tasks in the Pre-Registration Checklist.
HEALTH CLEARANCE
- Health holds are automatically placed on new student accounts, and must be cleared before students can register.
- Students will upload medical documents through Med+Proctor, a free service that handles all of the Immunization Verification processes for the University. Med+Proctor is able to accept various types of medical documents, including international documents.

HEALTH INSURANCE
- International Student Insurance – UH requires all International Students maintain adequate medical health insurance and medical evacuation and repatriation coverage while enrolled at UH.
- Check the International Student Services Health Insurance page for requirements for F-1 and J-1 students and plan options.
- Student Health Insurance Program (optional) – The Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association (HMSA) is the insurance provider for the UH Student Health Insurance Plan, which provides very comprehensive coverage and is widely accepted by nearly all doctors and hospitals in Hawaiʻi.

FALL 2025 PARKING PERMIT REQUEST (optional)
- The Law School is provided a limited number of parking permits for new law students for on-campus parking in Zone 20. Parking permits for students are priced start at about $234/semester. (If you prefer not to purchase a full semester pass, daily parking fees in Zone 20 are $5.00/day.) Use the online form below to request a Fall 2025 parking permit. Permits are first-come, first-served based on responses to this form.

SUMMER LEARNING (optional)
- Plagiarism Lesson: The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) has developed a 45 minute, 15 question interactive lesson on Plagiarism, entitled “Plagiarism in an Online World – Staying Out of Trouble.” (required for JD and AJD students)
- Turner in Law School blog: 2022 alumna blogged created a blog about her years at Richardson. “This blog has been my outlet to share stories, pictures, and thoughts. It’s a platform for me to reflect. …. The majority of my class knows about the blog and actively supports it! I even got a guest post from a friend!” Turner Wong, J.D.

The William S. Richardson School of Law Student Handbook contains important University and Law School policies, and strict academic and disciplinary regulations, that apply to all Law School students, including students in the LLM Program. Students are expected to familiarize themselves with its contents and adhere to University and Law School policies and procedures.

- University On-Campus Student Housing – On-campus student housing is very limited. Students interested in applying for on-campus housing are encouraged to do so as soon as possible and before the May 1 priority deadline.

Health Clearance
- Health holds are automatically placed on the MyUH accounts of new students and must be cleared before students can register. To remove these holds, students will submit health clearances through Med+Proctor. Submit your forms as soon as possible to allow time to process your submission before the first day of the semester.

- LWLM 570 Introduction to U.S. Law: required; credit/no credit grading option only
*Exempt for students who hold a U.S. JD or have been granted a waiver - LWLM 580 US Legal Research & Writing: recommended; credit/no credit grading option only
- LAW 576 Directed Study: LLM students may take one (1) Directed Study per semester for up to three (3) credits each. Students must first make arrangements with a faculty member to supervise their proposed project. Students will need to complete the Directed Study Approval Form before be allowing to register for a Directed Study.
- Other courses to be selected in consultation with LLM Faculty Advisor
- The latest class schedules are emailed to students with course details.
- LWLM 570 Introduction to U.S. Law: required; credit/no credit grading option only
- Grading options
- Credit/No Credit: LLM students generally take courses on a credit/no credit grading basis.
- A-F letter grading: may be permitted with the approval of the LLM Faculty Advisor

- Center for Academic Spoken English (CASE): provides free oral communication support for members of the UH Mānoa community who speak English as an additional language
