Second Annual Soifer Lecture Welcomes Professor Risa Goluboff to Richardson Law

HONOLULU, Hawaiʻi (March 6, 2026) — On March 3, 2026, the William S. Richardson School of Law hosted the second annual Soifer Lecture, welcoming renowned legal historian Professor Risa Goluboff to campus for a timely discussion on the role of law in American society.

Made possible through a generous gift from the Hundt Family Foundation and other supporters, the Soifer Lecture series honors Professor Emeritus Avi Soifer, a distinguished constitutional law scholar and former dean of Richardson Law, whose scholarship and mentorship have shaped generations of students.

Professor Goluboff, who served as the 12th dean of the University of Virginia School of Law, explored the question: “What does it mean for Americans to revere the law, and how does such reverence interact with the American tradition of critique, dissent, and protest?” Drawing inspiration from Abraham Lincoln’s Lyceum Address, her lecture offered historical insight into how reverence for the rule of law continues to shape American democracy.

The Soifer Lecture Series brings leading scholars to Richardson Law to foster meaningful dialogue on law, justice, and society while celebrating Professor Soifer’s enduring contributions to legal education.
