Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month with Our October Book Raffle
In October, the library joined the celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month with a special event designed to highlight the power of stories and the joy of reading.
Our raffle featured books by and about LGBTQ+ authors, activists, and communities. The collection showcased the diversity and resilience of LGBTQ+ voices across generations. These works share a heartbeat: a refusal to be silenced. Whether through activism, poetry, or Indigenous storytelling, each one exposes injustice while affirming love, embodiment, and belonging. Together, they remind us that queer and trans stories are not marginal—they are essential to understanding justice, land, and humanity itself.
We’re grateful to everyone who participated, helped spread the word, and made this celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month such a success. The enthusiasm reminded us how important it is to keep creating space for stories that reflect the full spectrum of our community.
The winners were:
1. Jesstine Kahauolopua won Queer (In) Justice: The Criminalization of LGBT People in the United States, by Joey L. Mogul, Andrea J. Ritchie and Kay Whitlock.
2. Kayla Low won Ask the Brindled, by Noʻu Revilla.
3. Douglas Le, won The Mahele of our Bodies: Na Mo’olelo Kupuna Mahu/LGBTQ, by Stephanie Nohelani Teves.
4. Anonymous won Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn’t My Rapist, by Ceclia Gentili.
5. Jessielyn Ho won You Better Be Lightning by Andrea Gibson.

Happy reading—and thank you for celebrating LGBTQ+ stories with us
