Admitted Student Weekend 2025 Welcomes Future Advocates to Richardson Law with Connection, Community, and Insight

The William S. Richardson School of Law opened its doors to a vibrant group of admitted students on April 4–5 for its 2025 Admitted Student Weekend—a two-day experience designed to immerse future law students in the culture, values, and people that make Richardson Law truly one-of-a-kind. With engaging panels and strong participation from faculty, students, alumni, and staff, the weekend offered a warm introduction to life at Hawai‘i’s Law School.

With 57 admitted students in attendance, this year’s event reflected the strong enthusiasm and connection felt between the school and its prospective students. Families traveled from neighbor islands, both U.S. coasts, and Canada!

“This weekend wasn’t just about showing what we offer—it was about inviting students into our ʻohana,” said Tyler Cegler, Director of Enrollment Management. “From the moment they stepped onto campus, they saw that this is a place rooted in purpose, culture, and community.”

Friday evening kicked off in the Clinical Building with check-in, pūpūs, and drinks as students met faculty, staff, and each other in a relaxed setting. Dean Camille Nelson offered a warm welcome, followed by brief remarks from the Admissions team and Career Services.

The student panel gave attendees insights into academic life, navigating law school, and the close-knit Richardson ʻohana. The evening wrapped with a lively mix & mingle that gave students space to build early connections and ask questions one-on-one.

Saturday began in the Law School Courtyard with delicious food and introductions from the Associate Deans. Students then heard from Professor Andrade on what it means to be a Richardson lawyer—grounded in kuleana (responsibility), justice, and service to community.

A campus tour and alumni panel followed, where graduates shared career stories and how Richardson shaped their paths. Over lunch, prospective students continued conversations with faculty, students, and alumni across the courtyard and classrooms.

The afternoon featured a mock class led by Professor Chen, giving attendees a glimpse into Richardson’s interactive, discussion-based learning environment. That session was followed by an introduction to experiential learning from Professor Capulong, who spoke about clinics, externships, and opportunities that connect classroom learning to real-world impact.

The day ended with a session from the Admissions and Financial Aid teams, offering guidance on next steps and support. “You could feel the spirit of Richardson throughout the entire weekend,” said Director of Enrollment Management Tyler Cegler. “We’re so excited to welcome this next class.”
