Banned Books Week Information:
Launched in 1982, Banned Books Week highlights the harms of censorship by focusing on efforts to remove or restrict access to books.
In 2023, the ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom documented a record 4,240 unique book titles targeted for censorship, with a significant portion representing LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC voices.
The theme for Banned Books Week 2024 is “Freed Between the Lines,” emphasizing the freedom found in books and the importance of the right to read.
